Netflix: Stranger Things Review

On the 15th of July, we saw the release of Stranger Things. It's a mystery, sci-fi series consisting of 8 episodes. Over a course of two nights, myself and Kevin flew through all the episodes with the popcorn at the ready each night.

If you love the 80's pop culture you are going to love this too. I'm a huge fan of 80's films so knowing that Stranger Things was paying homage to that era and the works of Stevan Spielberg, Stephan King, and George Lucas I knew I was in for a treat.

The mixture of suspense and mystery was spot on leaving me wanting to know more and which way things would turn.

The storyline focuses on the relationship of four young boys, who are very reminiscent of The Goonies (1986), their families and community. When one of the boys mysteriously disappears the boys find "Stranger Things" begin to happen in their lives. These terrifying events start to spread around to the entirety of the small town where the show is set, and it becomes apparent that there is seemingly only one outsider with the power to help.

The sets, clothing and overall feel of this series transports you straight back to the 80's and deserves massive applause! The casting was spot on from the kids to David Harbour as the town's police chief. It took me awhile to warm to Winona Ryder playing the missing boys mother but that could me still seeing her as Lydia in Beetlejuice (1988).

So if you are looking for something to watch I would highly recommend this along with a pillow to hide behind for the jumpy and intense moments.
