October Instagram Roundup

It's that time again where I bring you my monthly Instagram roundup. I really enjoy looking back though the pictures from the month and picking out some of my favourites. At the end of these posts I'm also going to recommend one of my favourite Instagrammers that I think you might enjoy following.

Every so often you might get a glimpse of Lillibug, and this is a moment we shared on Instagram during October. She is the light of my life.

I enjoyed our holiday so much in September that I've been looking and searching for new places to go. So looking at my travel essentials really gave me some inspiration.

I can never resist new stationery and what makes these pencils even better are the inspirational message they have to remind me I'm flaming wonderful!

I also made a Cloud 10 Beauty order this month which I did not feel guilty in purchasing in the slightest. The fact that €1 from every order going to the Irish Cancer Society had us all talking, and in turn brought awareness to breast cancer.

This was the biggest surprise of the month and to be honest I'm still in shock! I've been a member of the Netflix Stream Team for over two years now and Netflix surprised us with an iPad mini's as a thank you for our contribution and content to the team. I looked at the box for a few hours before I was persuaded to open it and to believe this was actually for me

So this month I would love for you all to visit Kathleen on Instagram. You will find everything there from her travel adventures, her shopping trips to Penneys (which let's admit, we all love), and all her beauty essentials. Also head on over to her blog Squidgy Moments!

Pippa for Blank Canvas Cosmetics Palette

I finally got my hands on the Pippa for Blank Canvas Cosmetics Palette thanks to a friend who treated me for my birthday a while back! So I've been putting it to the test to bring you the lowdown on the much talked about palette.

Pippa is one of Ireland's well known models and in 2013 set up Pippa.ie to talk about her love of beauty, style and fashion. So next on the list for the beautiful businesswoman was to create a palette and together with Blank Canvas Cosmetics this is the finished result!

The cardboard palette houses a good sized mirror along with six matte eyeshadows, one highlighter, one blusher and one bronzer. The shades are all very much leaning to the warm side, and suited my pale skin really well.

The eyeshadows all blend really well, and any neutral shadow lover would adore this, and can build up to a wonderful smokey eye. They can be used dry or wet. They feel super soft and you have your essentials when it comes to these shades.

Lulu- A gold champagne highlighter is a beauty to work with and not full of chunky glitter. I've been lashing this on the top of cheekbones and the inner corner of my eyes.

Pipsy- The blush is a lovely fresh pinky coral that I can't get enough of and lasted the day even without a setting spray!

Amour- Usually a warm bronze would pull orange on my skin tone but they really got the shade right and it worked as a contour shade for me, as well as using it on my eyes. This is buildable and it needs to be as it doesn't pack a punch on fist swipe.

I can't fault the shades, pigment, or lasting power with this palette but I do have a bone of contention when it comes to the price. The palette retails for €34.95 and (can be purchased from Cloud 10 Beauty) but with its cardboard casing and safe selection with the eye shades I really do believe it is a tad over priced. The palette from the outside looks to be aimed at younger women who may not be able to afford it, and the inside has the quality any beauty lover would want at that price, which leads me to believe that they weren't sure who to market the palette to. Yes, I may sound completely harsh but I've always given the pros and cons of products I review here and this is just my own opinion at the end of the day. I do really like this palette. I'm certainly not bashing it as the quality of the product itself, as it has surpassed my expectations, and I am delighted that it's part of my collection because I don't have many neutral palettes. But I do find that the faults I've picked out cannot be overlooked. It's definitely worthwhile palette as it has your basic, essential shades. I can see that I will get a lot of use out of it and it's slim enough to throw in the handbag!

Netflix Stream Team: Making Mjolnir (Thor's Hammer) for Halloween!

It's that time of year again, Halloween! As a kid, it was a time for making your own costumes and props, so I decided to carry on this tradition with Lillibug. Now as you've seen on this blog before, Lillibug is big into her Disney Princesses, but she also enjoys her Marvel heroes with her favourites being Captain America and Thor. It was the latter that I decided I was going to try and take inspiration from, and what better than with Thor's signature weapon, the hammer "Mjolnir". So follow my steps below, (and hopefully improve on them) to make your own!

What you need:
A cereal box, some tinfoil, 1 x toilet roll insert, 1 x kitchen roll insert, sellotape, and a scissors.

Step 1:
Cut the toilet roll insert open, and flatten.

Step 2:
Stand the kitchen roll insert in the centre of the flattened open toilet roll insert and attach with sellotape. If there's little hand that want to help with this, all the better. Be careful with that scissors though!

 Step 3:
Attach the "handle" to the side of the cereal box (as shown below) with sellotape.

Step 4:
Wrap the "head" of the hammer with tinfoil, and secure with sellotape. Make sure the edges of the box don't tear through the tinfoil.

Step 5:
Get your young superhero to decorate a piece of paper, to personalise their own Mjolnir handle.

Step 6:
Wrap the sheet of paper around the handle, and secure with sellotape, and presto. All done.

Step 7:
Find a red sheet or something similar, fire up Netflix and put on "Thor", "Thor: The Dark World", or "Lego Marvel Super Heroes: Maximum Overdrive", and let your child unleash their inner God or Goddess of Thunder!

*Disclaimer: I'm a member of the Netflix Stream Team and for this I received a complimentary subscription for one year & an Apple TV (Box). All opinions are my own, and I will be posting once a month in relation to Netflix Stream Team. Stay tuned........

Beauty Blender Review

It has taken me months, and months of toying with the idea of writing a review about a tiny itty bitty sponge that blends your makeup. Meet the Beauty Blender the ultimate beauty tool at a cost of  €22.40 available from Beauty Bay. Yes, you heard €22.40 and I was so sceptical about how this was going to be any different to the more affordable Real Techniques Sponge.

The small pink egg shaped sponge comes in a plastic cylinder and feels so tiny, but it feels super velvety and soft. So I washed my sponge thoroughly before first use, and you will notice some of the pink being drained down the plughole, but it does however hold it's colour for a few months, even if not as vibrantly.

To get started you just dampen your sponge and it expands. In the picture above you can see it's expanded and I usually use the cylinder it came with as a holder for drying. With a patting motion you blend your makeup in with the sponge, using the rounded side for the bigger surfaces of your face, and the pointy side is brilliant for getting around the eye area, nose and concealing spots. After use wash your Beauty Blender with warm water and soap.

Okay so big question is it worth the money? I have to say a big resounding YES! It has lasted months, it's my most used beauty tool and gives me the most flawless of finishes. The Real Techniques sponge is definitely a cheaper alternative but the Beauty Blender wins hands down by giving the better finish, and lasts much longer. Over time the Beauty Blender loses it's pinkness but I've gotten a good 6-7 months out of mine so far, and I won't hesitate to buy another one very soon.

The Beauty Blender is a great multi tasker for applying any type of liquid or cream product to the face and I've used it on my powders too. Another bonus from using this magic sponge is that it's great for my dry and sensitive skin, so it doesn't flair up the dry patches so that's another thumbs up from me.

What's your holy grail makeup tool?

NYX Suede Collection Palette

I'm a big fan of NYX products but any of their eyeshadows I've tried have always let me down. Then I came across the NYX Suede Collection Palette (€16) and decided to give them another chance.

I didn't get off to a good start when I opened my delivery to see this was very much flimsy cardboard packaging. The window at the front is plastic and even though I take care of my makeup with pride this will need special care so possible not the best for travelling long haul.

It was the jewel shades that really got me hooked when I saw them close up, so decided to forgive the packaging and move on from it! You get 8 beautiful buttery shadows that do have a fair bit of fall out due to the shimmer and glitter. They do however translate very well on the eyes but be warned you need primer to make these stay in place. I'm not sure where the "suede" term comes from as once on the eyes they just look like shimmer shadows etc., but still beautiful.

For Autumn/Winter these shades are beautiful and have brought me out of my comfort zone to a degree. I do like this palette probably more than I should, and when I compare them to my previous palettes from NYX this one packs more of a punch when it comes to pigment.

There were no names for the shades on the palette they were just numbered, but I will try and give you a quick summary of the shades/swatches.

1. Very soft cream highlight shade
2. Light beige with a sheen to it.
3. Gold with a little shimmer
4. Bronze pearl effect and when used with a primer this pops like no other!

 5. Looks brown in the picture but it has more of a green slant to it with gold shimmer.
6. Brown with gold shimmer
7. Deep Green with shimmer.
8. Brown but this one was the hardest for me to work with, it was patchy and disappeared easily on my lids. Sometime has a burgundy look to it depending on the light.

Have you tried NYX shadows? Let me know what you think and if you have recommendations x

NARS Super Orgasm Blush

This my first foray into anything NARS, and of course it would have to be a blush. This was a special edition packaging as far as I'm aware and is even tinier than the original packaging which is really cute. So let me introduce you to NARS Super Orgasm Blush (€30)!

I'm very much obsessed when it comes to blushes, so I was very excited when I opened this. Also if you are a long time reader you know I just love me some glitter and this blush has plenty of it. The warm peach/pink tone and gold glitter particles looks beautiful in the pan, but does that translate to the face?! Em read on.

The texture of this blush feels very rough but this is down to the glitter particles and the blush underneath is smooth and blendable. The glitter goes EVERYWHERE accept for the cheeks. You will find that the glitter is loosely placed in the blush, so it just moves around and ends up stuck in the brush or flying around the room. I hope you can see in the below picture how loose the gold glitter is, I tried to get in as close as possible to show you.

However, even with the problem I'm having with the glitter I still can't stop myself from wearing this blush. It give a lovely soft warmth to my pale skin that I love, and I get the majority of the day out of wearing it without topping up (6-7 hours).

I really like the simple black packaging and the sleekness to the blush, and I even at €30 I'm tempted to try another blush (maybe without glitter this time). Which NARS Blush would your recommend?

Smashbox #Shapematters 3 in 1 Contouring Palette

It couldn't be helped especially when the Smashbox #Shapematters Palette was a star gift with Boots, so instead of paying €76 this was on offer at €38. Bargain! The offer ends tomorrow so if after reading this you think it's just what you need for your makeup collection then get down to your local Boots pronto.

So what are you getting for your money:

Brows

The wax is protected from the powders with a plastic covering which is a bonus, and the wax feel soft but holds all day. The two brow powders are not too soft and work into the brows really well and give a natural look to your brows.

Face:

The contour is the perfect shade for my pale skin and doesn't pull orange, it's blendable and also buildable. The Bronzer also doesn't pull orange on my pale skin, so far so good, and it does warm up my complexion especially with the colder months coming in quick and my face needs warmth! The highlight does not show up on my skin and nearly works like a setting powder with sheen but I'll keep working away on it. The other highlighter "Glow" is very pretty but if you prefer a pink or gold highlight this may not be for you.

Eyes:

You also get 9 Photo Op Eye Shadows, and the shades are gorgeous, but there are some pro and cons to these shadows. They create a lot of dust within the palette (thank goodness the wax is protected with the casing) especially with the colours Totally Nude, Champagne, and Posh.

The lighter colours also are in need of a really good primer to get the day out of them, or within hours you will be wondering if you even put any on. I like the colour selection they put in, and with a mix of shimmer, glitter and mattes it works really well to make a day or night look.

The last row of darks did not swatch well at all but don't let that put you off as these work differntly when applying to your eyes. Aubergine is my favourite and blends lovely on my outer V. The darker shades last the longest on the lids too.

Other Features to the Palette:

The palette houses a beautiful full mirror, which gives weight to this palette. You also get a really nice double ended brush that has your shadow and brow brush, and usually I'm not a fan of brushes inside palette but I do like this one. The palette feels sturdy and safe and I like the sleek matte black casing.

You also get "How to" inserts and you can go online for tutorials, I haven't tried them yet but it's a nice idea to have them in the palette.

Overall I really do like this palette, I have nothing else like it in my collection. It's a perfect travel piece for any makeup lover and I'm delighted that I got this on offer. Would I pay the full price? Maybe not but then again I would ask Santa!

Is this a palette you could see yourself using?
