MAC Studio Fix Fluid SPF 15 Review

Back in September, while on holidays in Cork I picked up my first ever MAC Foundation! I know I was meant to review it back then especially as some of you asked, but between one thing or another I never got round to it (sorry!).

I was colour matched in store to NW13 for my pale skin, and then after a discussion about my dry skin and oily t-zone the MAC Studio Fix Fluid was chosen for me.

Well I have to say this is my holy grail of foundations. The colour match NW13 is perfect with a pink undertone (I always struggle to find that pink undertone at the pharmacy stands). The foundation is medium coverage but buildable to full coverage with a lovely natural matte finish which does not look flat at all.

Another problem that I can have with foundations is longevity, but even without a primer or setting spray the Studio Fix Fluid locks in for the day, so that is definitely a bonus point for me.

As with all foundations I was worried about how it would suit my skin and when I bought this last year my skin was dry but had an oily t-zone. The foundation didn't cling to the dry patches and it soaked up any oiliness around the t-zone. There is a strong smell of this foundation but this didn't cause me any problems to my sensitive skin and once applied the smell doesn't linger. My skin has recently changed to really dry with no oiliness, but once my skin is prepped with a really good moisturiser and I use my Real Techniques Sponge to apply I'm good to go.

This foundation performs just the way I want it and now that I have scraped the last of the foundation out of the gorgeous glass bottle I really need to order more! You have the added bonus of having an SPF 15 in it which is great and with its specially treated micronized pigments and soft focus powders this certainly smooths out my skin and covers any imperfections.

The foundation is €31.50 and you have to buy a pump separately at €5.50. It is expensive but for me this is worth it and definitely a treat. A little goes a long way to get the coverage I like so this does last me.

What's your holy grail foundation? Let me know!

    1. Grace I could not get over the fact that there was a perfect shade to suit me! My skin feels like it can breath with this foundation. It's the most money I've ever spent on a foundation but would do it again x

  4. Ahhh gutted. I won a bottle of this in a competition and picked NW15 as that is my usual Mac shade and it was waaaay too dark, practically orange on me. I ended up giving it to my sister in law who has a darker skin tone than me. Such a pity as I really wanted to give it a good trial on my oil t zone. Looks like NW13 would have been the perfect shade for me.

    1. Ah no way that is such a pity. Hate how most foundations are too yellow or orange on me. Maybe you could get a sample of NW13 xx

  5. I've always wanted to try MAC but I'm never near an actual stand and their shades really confuse me! I'm delighted you found your HG foundation, so hard to find but so satisfying! x

    1. I noticed they have a different way of doing their shades but it seems to work! 2014 was the year I discovered MAC and even though the foundation is on the pricey side especially has you have to buy pump separate, I'm delighted I took the plunge xx

  6. that looks like the perfect shade! I don't have a holy grail when it comes to foundations, although I have a very soft spot for beautiful movements cosmetics mineral foundation, and I've recently tried Rimmel's stay matte foundation. I know it's been out a while but the porcelain shade is a great match for my skin tone, and it's lasting longer since I switched primers. I'm tempted to try a mac foundation though after reading this.... :P

    1. I've only ever tried a primer from Beautiful Movements and loved it! I'm not a fan of the Rimmel stay matte at all, it just looks like a mask on me :( Try and get a sample from MAC to see how you get on with it xx

  7. I'm still searching for the "perfect" foundation for me, this might be worth a try. I'm currently using a Benefit foundation & have purchased the Bourjois Healthy mix serum foundation to try.

    1. I was using the Benefit foundation for ages but the colour just wasn't pale enough for me and the undertone definitely wasn't right so definitely delighted with MAC. I got the Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum too but even the lightest shade is too dark for me :( Hope you find a perfect foundation soon Carol x
