Lets Talk Blog Challenge: Day In The Life

Week 1

Day In The Life of Lilliwhiterose & Lillibug

The wonderful Sarah from At The Beauty Desk who is a blogger and youtuber has created this fun challenge. Her idea is to get us all together to interact, support and discover other blogs, s I couldn't say no and just had take part! Every Monday over the coming six weeks at 8pm you find all the participents posts going live on our blogs. You will also find us chatting on Twitter at this time under the hashtag LetsTalkBlogChallenge.

So this week is "Day In The Life". My life is all about my little girl Lillibug, she is two years old and a bundle of absolute joy and energy. So as our day is full of emotions here is our Day In The Life of our emotions.

Disney's Frozen

We are big fans of anything Disney and Frozen is our top pick in the house at the moment. It means cuddles on the couch under our fave blanket and it really puts a smile on both Lillibug's face and mine.

Lillibug in Mammy's fluffy socks

Lillibug is always trying to make me laugh especially on a bad day when I'm really unwell. She if very in tune with people when they aren't well, so you will be guaranteed she will do something to make you happy!

Building Bricks that make you suffer
I have stood on one of these bad boys on many an occasion but today was the first time Lillibug stood on one and went flying on her back. The tears kept on coming!

Lillibug has a fear of the nail clippers. Who knows why but we all have our own fears with no explanations for them. Her nails grow like mine which is super quick but it takes about half an hours of running after her to get her to give in and let us do her nails.

Toddler Graffiti
I knew Lillibug had gone way too quiet when I was in the shower, so it didn't really surprise me that she was up to no good. I was so annoyed though to find that she had managed to get an eyeliner of mine and drew on the wall in the top landing!

Having a child can give you every emotion you could ever think of but it all boils down to one.....Love! I wouldn't have my days any other way, being a mother is the most magical experience I have ever had and the happiest times of my life.

So that was our day, let's bring on tomorrow!

"Dry Like Me" Potty Training Pads + "How to Potty Train" Book Giveaway

Dry Like Me Nappy Pads

As a mother to a 2 year old I am starting to think that Lillibug is giving us signs of being ready for potty training. Oh the joys! So when I got the opportunity to try the Dry Like Me pads out I couldn't say no. You simply just put them in your toddlers ordinary pants so when they have an accident they learn and react to what is happening! Dry Like Me have also kindly given me the opportunity to bring you a giveaway of 4 x Box of Training Pads and a beautiful book "How to Potty Train" written by Judith Hough and Diane Titterton.

Lillibug hasn't started the pads yet, but she is starting to take interest in the book. The book is full of useful information, star charts, stickers and an achievement certificate. All of which Lillibug has taken a great interest in. So I will report back in a few weeks to let you know how the potty training is going but in the mean time here is the giveaway, good luck everyone!

"Dry Like Me was developed by busy working Mums Jude and Di to help with the stress and mess of toilet training. Trials showed that the pas was an excellent training tool because it helped children feel when they had had an accident which then led them to understand the signs that they needed to go to the toilet"

Dry Like Me Potty Training Pads are now available in Ireland in 85 of the Tesco stores, a box of 18 pads retails for around €4.99.

L'Oreal Elvive Fibrology Range Review

I couldn't resist trying out the new L'Oréal Elvive Fibrology Range! I wasn't blessed with thick full hair. Mine is limp, fine and lacking any bounce whatsoever. So I have for years gone through so many products that claim to give me thicker hair, bouncy hair, full hair but none have worked until now.

L'Oréal Elvive Fibrology Range

I've finally had a "Because I'm Worth It" moment.

L'Oréal Elvive Fibrology Shampoo & Conditioner

To be honest the first time I used this I noticed no difference in my hair, it felt awful. It was full of knots and felt harsh. Fast forward to the next day and the only shampoo and conditioner in the shower was this, so I gave it another go, and I am so glad I did. My hair looked amazing, so full and it bounced! Seriously, it bounced! For those who might be new to my blog you may not know that I lost some hair last year around my hairline and my hair thinned out even more that it was constantly tied up. Now my hair has been let loose and bouncing it's way around my face (with no complaints from me). I am still totally in shock at how well these products work for me.

L'Oréal Elvive Fibrology Thickness Booster

I finally got the thickness booster (it seemed to sell out very fast) to add to the conditioner and it also made a difference. The only thing about the packaging of this is that it is so awkward in the shower trying to add the booster to your conditioner and then mixing it, I would definitely prefer a pump on the booster.

Overall Verdict:
I absolutely love the Fibrology range it has been my hero product so far this year, leaving me happy with my hair. I used this for 8 weeks but found that I had to move to another shampoo as my hair was starting to feel dry. Even though I have stopped using it about 3 weeks ago my hair hasn't gone back to the old way yet, so this obviously is not a one trick pony. I have thicker, fuller hair with volume and bounce (who knew I would ever have hair like that). The packaging needs another look over, the thickness booster is awkward to use especially when in the shower, and the conditioner bottle seems to hold water in the cap so when you open it again you get yucky cold water going down your arm. One other thing that you should be aware of is that you have to use the same amount of thickness booster in with your conditioner, yet you have a 400ml bottle of conditioner and a 30ml tube of thickness booster, so not sure yet how that is going to work out for me. Overall this has made an obvious difference to my hair and I love it.

Shampoo 400ml: €5.09

(Lost out on .5 due to packaging issues)

App of the Month

If like me you love puzzles, then this one is for you!

Lyne App Logo from Presskit

Thomas Bowker is the designer and developer of Lyne and I'm convinced he made this for me! The reason I think this is because I am no longer tempted to throw my gadget across the room in frustration. Unusually for a puzzle the smooth lines and simple structure of this games makes for very tranquil experience.

There is an ambiance to this puzzle which makes it a calming experience, with its relaxing audio and no penalties for a wrong move, you really couldn't ask for more.

The goal is to connect matching shapes with a line and fill your board. All you have to do is start with a shape and drag a line bringing them through connectors but not crossing over previous lines. There are no points to be scored or medals to be won which I find great as I feel I'm not battling to reach anything. You can unlock wallpaper when you start passing more and more levels. The levels are from A-Z in blocks of 25, you also get daily doses which are in two blocks. This will have you hooked!

No in-app purchases & no ads!

New Blog Look

I recently got in touch with Hannah from Love, Life and Makeup Blog to get a logo made for my blog. It was Hannah's own logo that caught my attention and then started to see some of her other work and knew that this was who I needed to work with.

Hannah is a joy to work with, so laid back, funny and exceptionally talented. We did all our communication through email and it didn't take long after just a few questions on Hannah's part to come up with something I am totally and utterly in love with. To be honest Hannah listened so well and took everything I said into consideration she hit on what I wanted straight away with just a few minor adjustments (only because she is a perfectionist). Hannah studied Graphics, Art Education and Fashion which you can tell by her work and she throws everything she has into it.

Made with Love

You will see Hannah's Logo that she made for me popping up on all my social media platforms today and on the blog. I am so happy with the two ladybirds in particular as they represent myself and Lillibug (for those who don't know Lillibug is the pseudonym for my little girl). Blossoms are one of my favourite flowers and what was really surprising is that I never told Hannah that, but lo and behold there they are on the logo!

I wouldn't hesitate to work with Hannah again and I am looking forward to meeting her later in the month for the first time at a meetup she has organised herself! So please go check out her amazing blog for all your beauty, fashion and lifestyle needs you won't regret it.

Hannah can be found on Twitter/Facebook/Blog

Baking with Eileen: Chocolate Celebration Cake

Hello again everyone! I was delighted when LilliWhiteRose asked me to guest post on her wonderful blog again. This time my post is about baking so I hope you will enjoy reading it and perhaps try out the recipe for yourself.

Disney Friends presenting the wonderful Chocolate Cake

Baking is something I enjoy very much and our boys love getting involved too which is fun..sometimes ;) I generally bake cupcakes, breads, scones, apple tart so when our eldest son Luke turned 5 few weeks ago I thought it would be nice to make his birthday cake. With time a little against me I had to work with what ingredients I had in the baking press so I set about looking for a simple chocolate cake recipe, which I found here

A few little notes on the recipe:

* I always prefer to use butter for baking as it adds great flavour
* Make sure that the butter is softened and the the flour and cocoa powder are sifted
* I use a good quality organic cocoa powder
* If you don’t have vanilla extract then vanilla essence will do but you will need to use more of it, perhaps 3 or 4 teaspoons

I love this recipe because it’s an all-in-one method so I was able to put everything into the mixing bowl together, just turn on the mixer for a few minutes it was done! I use a stand mixer but a handheld mixer or good old fashioned wooden spoon will work just as well - but it might take a bit longer to get the consistency you need. There was a most wonderful aroma around the house while this was baking.

Now, this cake doesn’t look much when its baked, so it needs a little make over to finish things off. This is where some delicious chocolate icing comes in.

Take 100g of good quality dark chocolate (70% or more cocoa), 100g of icing sugar and 100g of butter.

  • Melt the chocolate in a bowl over a saucepan of simmering water
  • Melt the butter in another saucepan, add the melted chocolate and icing sugar to this and mix well. It starts out quite runny but it will thicken as it cools which takes 10-15 minutes
  • Using a palate knife you can then spread it all over the cake.
  • Take care not to leave it cool for too long or it will not spread very well
Depending on the occasion the cake is for, it can just be left simply with the chocolate icing  or just use your imagination - anything goes! I chose to use Smarties as they are so colourful and kids love them! I used 4 boxes and just spread them evenly over the top.  I thought it still needed something so I made some vanilla buttercream. I use a recipe from a great blog called run by the lovely Holly Bell. Some of you may remember her from The Great British Bake Off a few years ago.

I just piped the buttercream on the sides and around the bottom and the cake was done! When Luke saw it the following morning he was absolutely thrilled so that was all the reward I needed. I have to say it did taste pretty good too!

Very often the simple recipes are the most satisfying. They can offer a good base from which to experiment or try out little variations to your own tastes. I found all of the above recipes to be very easy to work with and I’ll certainly be using them again for more cakes in the future.

If any of you bake a cake using above recipe and decorate it I would love if you would tweet some pictures to me @eileenc77 and @Lilliwhiterose.

Happy Baking!!

A note from Lilliwhiterose: I would like to thank Eileen for once again contributing to my blog. Eileen is a full time mum to three wonderful little boys and I know her time is precious and can't thank her enough for taking the time out to write this post and take such wonderful pictures. xx

Review: Sleek Blush by 3- Pink Lemonade

I couldn't resist a Cloud 10 Beauty order a few weeks ago, and the Sleek Blush by 3 in Pink Lemonade just jumped out at me. I absolutely love blusher and can never resist them but what I liked about this was the packaging and having 3 blushes in a palette! I have used Sleek products before and I have always been impressed by their pigment and pricing. So how did this trio hold up? Read on to find out...

Sleek Blush by 3- Pink Lemonade

The Product:
The palette consists of three complimentary pink shades all of different texture. Two are powders and one cream.

Sleek Blush by 3-Pink Lemonade. Close up

Pink Mint-I would say this is your classic pink and has glitter particles for shimmer. The consistency is a little chalky and the glitter falls around the palette to add annoyance. The pigment is also lacking with this powder blusher.
Macaroon-A medium pink shade, that leaves you with a gorgeous glow. This is the cream blush in the palette and I really like how buttery this is, and how pigmented this is (a little really does go a long way and will last all day too). I found using my Real Techniques stippling brush worked best with this one and it blended  really well.
Icing Sugar-This is a beautiful golden pink shade with a frosted finish. Of the two powder blushes this is my favourite and has a much stronger pigment that lasts all day.

Sleek Blush by 3 Pink Lemonade-Packaging

The Packaging:
The trio come in a sleek palette that clasps shut. The palette feels really sturdy and there is no way this palette is going to open up in my bag. There is a lovely sized mirror for your on the go application which I do use. I do have one issue with the packaging and that is with the glitter from Pink Mint falling into Macaroon the cream blusher. When applied this hasn't been an issue and the glitter that has fallen into Macaroon doesn't seem to apply then to my face.

Sleek Blush by 3 Pink Lemonade-Swatches

Overall Verdict:
I really like this palette and it works for me and what I need from it. I use the cream blush first then add some dimension with Icing Sugar and use Pink Mint as a highlight and I really like the look achieved by doing this as the colours do compliment one another.
For €12.99 it is a welcome addition to my makeup bag and would like to try more of Sleek's by 3 palettes. This might not be for everyone and it does have a few downsides which are the chalky consistency and fallout of Pink Mint and not having much staying power. The glitter particles falling into the cream blush is also a downside but something I am able to overlook for now.
