#SBBC Day 5: Favourites & Failures of Makeup Removers

Fail:

Many a fail I have had with makeup removers over the years, the biggest would have to be the use of wipes and to be more specific Baby Wipes!

Lillibug was born 22 months ago so there is now an endless supply of baby wipes in our house and they do have many a use. For sheer handiness I was using them for removing my makeup, and using them way too much. The reason they fail is (in my opinion):

1. Not meant for removing makeup
2. Too harsh on my face.
3. Dry out my skin.
4. Tugs at my skin.
5. Not a deep enough clean.

So my skin was starting to look dull and got really dried out and very blotchy, that even with my other cleansers and toners they couldn't correct anything. Now for the last 3 months I have not let a baby wipe touch my face and my skin has gone back to normal again!

Another Fail would have to be Nivea Daily Essentials Double Effect Eye Makeup Remover......YUCK! I hate this stuff near my eyes and as you can see that even after 6 months I can not bring myself to touch this, so I really think it's time for the bin. It just feels so greasy and it always seems to go into my eye so the world can look murky for a few seconds.... and it doesn't take off my mascara :(

Favourites:

I only have one favourite at the moment and it is a great all rounder because it does my face as well as my eyes. It doesn't move the dirt around my face because it acts like a magnet on the makeup and soaks it all onto the cotton ball. I have recently reviewed the L'Oreal Skin Perfection 3 in 1 Purifying Micellar Solution (click for review) and can't recommend it enough. It removes my makeup, cleanses, tones and smooths so it is perfect. Within 24 hours of using this I noticed a difference in my skin!

So what are your fails and favourites with makeup removers? Let me know in the comments section below x

    1. I absolutely love it and it's got my skin back to where it was before i started using wipes. I've now introduced other cleansers into my routine and my skin is in great condition. You should give it a whirl Boots have an offer at the moment so you could get it for under €5!

  2. Whoo L'oreal snap!! Those fails sound super faily though, fully how one bad cleanser etc can change your skin.

    1. I have sworn to never let a baby wipe or any other type of wipe to touch my face yet i'm tempted by the new water wipes :) My skin was destroyed so never will let it go like that again, but i was wasn't well and let things slip!

  4. There's another Nivea eye make up remover on the market - Nivea Visage Extra Gentle. It much better than the one photographed - I don't find it greasy at all and it really gets rid of hard to budge mascara for me!
I agree with baby wipes - I had to stop using them because my skin suffered as well - I'll never be lazy with my skin again! :) xx

  5. I haven't tried the L'oreal water but I've tried a few other products including a cleanser and it burned the eyes out of me. I just find their stuff very harsh! Also agree on the baby wipes, I find the new water wipes face ones great for when I'm too tired but I definitely wouldn't put another baby wipe near my face! x
