Maybelline Baby Lips Lip Balms has generated a lot of hype over the last few weeks/months and finally got to try them out for myself. I bought two tinted in the colours Pink Punch and Peach Kiss. They are meant to protect and moisturise for up to 8 hours, after one week you are meant to notice a difference in the appearance of your lips. They come in 6 varieties, and the non tinted versions offer SPF. They contain petroleum, and include vitamin E, aloe and shea butter.
Some may say the packaging looks really cheap with the coloured plastic, but I have to say I think it looks retro and anything that brings me back to the 80's gets a nod. All my favourite lip balms or butters seem to come in a tin but I get a tad bit grossed out sometimes dipping my finger into them so trying the Baby Lips was a welcomed change.
Does It Work:
For me it's a big fat NO! I don't like to be negative but I have to be honest and bring to you my true opinion on these. I believe the petroleum in these products let the Baby Lips down, I find that petroleum just sits on top and protects like a balm so this doesn't feel like it is going deep into the skin to work. I have to re-apply every few hours as the claim of 8 hours is by no means true for me. I have been using them for over a week and now I have decided to go back to my old reliable.
Pink Punch is an awful garish pink colour that does nothing but make your lips look like they are in a bad state of repair. The colour just seems to bunch up in places so this get a big thumbs down. When it starts to fade it looks really blotchy.
Peach Kiss is more subtle and I can live with this but I don't have the patience to keep reapplying during the day as I would need to every 2 hours or less to feel that it is doing the job.
I will not buy these again and it has put me off trying the other 4 variations in the collection. So I think the Baby Lips are just a lot of unnecessary hype.
