#JuneBBC: Reflection

Some of the pictures used in the June Beauty Blogger Challenge.

Wow what a month this has been and #JuneBBC has been an amazing to be part of. Now June has not been a good month for me it has been a disaster, between rushing our little one to the hospital who is okay now, my granny rushed to hospital and then me getting treatment for Hyperthyroidism and now quarantined for 3 weeks away from my little girl. Unfortunately I couldn't commit in the end to posts everyday (I could kick myself) but it wasn't meant to be. The posts I have done I really enjoyed doing and it has given me the incentive to keep going, I honestly didn't expect anyone to read my blog but I am amazed at the wonderful comments and the amount of pageviews.

I have made new friends and it has given me the confidence to chat to other bloggers and feel like I am becoming part of the community.  I have discovered some amazing blogs through #JuneBBC and have had some great conversations.

During a time of chaos #JuneBBC has given me something that was constant during this month even though I wasn't. So I need to give a big thank you to Girl Friday and congratulations on the success of this challenge she brought to us all.

#JuneBBC Day 30: My Recent Empties

This is one I was planning on doing so I was really excited that it was last on the list for #JuneBBC. I have kept everything, some I loved some I didn't.

 photo 1a52614b-96d0-40ae-bf1c-f33c79101f7f_zps82b31366.jpg

1. Benefit Foamingly Clean Facial Wash - Already Repurchased. Love it!

2. NYC Color Mosaic Face Powder - I thought I would buy this again but decided NO! This broke apart and only had half then to work with, so this got empty pretty quick. For review click here.

3. Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream - I love love love this and can't wait to invest in the full size one!

4. Benefit POREfessional - i really like this for minimising pores but as a primer not so much I don't find that this holds my make-up at all.

5. Lush Mint Julips Lip Scrub - I have repurchased this time and again but have promised myself that I will branch out the next time I visit Lush, I have spoken about this and how much I like it here

6. Aveeno Hand Cream - I really like this especially if I put gloves on an let it soak in.

7. Charity Hand & Body Lotion - This was only a sample but usually have 4 of these hanging around because I have to have this in my handbag, seriously need a trip to Lush to get this in full size again.

8. Benefit Moisture Prep Toning Lotion - This was light and not greasy which I really like.

9. Sanctuary Body Scrub, I really love the smell and how it just leaves my body so smooth.

10 Daisy by Marc Jacobs, this is my favourite sent and my hubby surprised me with a bigger bottle recently.

11. Benefit They're Real Mascara, it is a must for me to go out and buy again it is my favourite mascara and have also reviewed this here.

Saying goodbye to #JuneBBC click here on my thoughts.

#JuneBBC Day 4: What's In My Shower

photo 65771feb-7bf6-46a6-a82a-a66f6fbd5ede_zps90937569.jpgin my shower photo PIC_0258_zps300b76b4.jpg

Usually my products change month to month except for the ones that have the hearts on it. The ones with the hearts are my favourites that I repurchase once I run out and suit my hair and skin.

I was really disappointed to see that I have no Lush products which is a first for me but I haven't been to Dublin in so long, so that is going to change next month so really excited about that.

1. Aussie Miracle Moist Shampoo which I have reviewed previously.

2. Aussie Miracle Moist Conditioner, I don't use conditioner much due to it making my hair limp.

3. Sanctuary Foaming Shower Mousse which I also reviewed previously.

4. Sanctuary Body Scrub.

5. Sanctuary Body Wash.

6. Sanctuary Warming Micro-abrasion Polish which also I have reviewed, this is something I am just using so it doesn't go to waste but I won't be repurchasing.

7. Benefit Foamingly Clean Facial Wash which some of you might know Benefit is my favourite brand, you can see my collection here.

8. Sanctuary Creme Souffle

9. Nip + Fab Mango Smoothie Body Butter.

So that is what is in my shower this month, I do change it up each month and love trying new products so next month will be interesting especially with the trip to Lush.

#JuneBBC Day 18: Favourite Makeup Brand

Well I do not need to think about this and neither do my family it is Benefit all the way! I absolutely love their products and their cute packaging their price makes me cry sometimes but what I have got has been worth it, and my family are great around Birthday and Christmas time (so thank you family x).

Sorry the pic isn't very clear I think it's due to the fact I dropped my camera!

I have a lot of travel size products from Benefit which I find great as I am always on the go seeing family and I get annoyed bringing all the full size ones especially in the skincare which works wonders on my skin and I never miss a day of cleansing and moisturising. My two favourite products from their line would have to be They're Real Mascara and their Fine One One for cheek and lips and I have reviewed  both of these for you all.

I have been so excited about the launch of Benefit Stay Flawless 15 Hour primer but raging as I can't go get it for another 3 weeks (due to the fact that I am radio-active and have no car for 3 week). So if you have a review up for it I would love if you sent me a link to see what your thoughts are on it x

Unfortunately I haven't kept up with #JuneBBC but I am trying to catch up on few of them before it finishes Sunday night, so when I went down through the topics this one caught my eye. It is not something any of really think about when we put our make-up on and boy did I get a shock after counting this all up. Now what I use changes on a day to day basis so I decided to go with what I wore yesterday (no makeup on today) and go with that for the post.

3.  I am a big child at heart and could sit in front of the TV and watch cartoons preferably anything Disney all day long.

4.  I wash my hands waaaaaay to much because I hate to think of germs on my hands, I actually start to panic if my hands are dirty.

#JuneBBC Day 21: Favourite Nail Look/Art

I am the most useless person for nails, I cannot to them for love or money but love looking at peoples nail art and what colours and designs they are doing especially Behind Green Eyes she has the most beautiful nails design and only wish that I could replicate. So I decided tonight that I was going to make an attempt.

I love the constellation look so I bought MUA Nail Constellation in Gemini:

It doesn't help that I have a shake in my hand but I put some clear nail varnish on and sprinkled away to my hearts content. Patients is a virtue while waiting for this to set and I was glad I hung in there because this was the result:
Before & After

My Effort

If you have any tips for me please leave a comment and let me know, like how to keep the little constellations from falling off when I go to bed!?! I know I have a long way to go when it comes to doing my nails but I do think it's relaxing and I will persevere.

#JuneBBC Day 3: Favourite Hair Product

I am always looking for hair products that give my lifeless, dry, fine hair. I recently discovered Aussie Shampoo and I am raging with myself that I never ever tried it before.

Aussie Shampoo

I have recently reviewed Aussie Miracle Shampoo and I will not be without it now, my hair is so healthy, shiny and has some lift in it that I feel like there is a bounce in my step as well as my hair.

I am defiantly going to try more of these products in the future and would love to get their Aussie 3 Minute Miracle Conditioner next, oh and also their Frizz products my hair gets awfully frizzing in the summer.

I have had a few compliments on how my hair is looking now so obviously it's not just me, the results are there for everyone to notice.

You can check out the Aussie website to see their full range of products here.

#JuneBBC Day 21: Beauty Haul

This might be my only haul this month I will be in quarantine for two weeks after treatment for an Overactive Thyroid, I hope to do a blog post on the condition and the treatment I am going though when it starts next week.

Also I think I will use this as my #JuneBBC Day 21 due to the fact nails are not my forte, so hope you don't mind. Also check out Girlfridays Beauty Blog who is the brains behind #JuneBBC, and you will also find a list of others who are participating in #JuneBBC. So I hope you forgive me for going off topic.

So to cheer myself up and to give myself some joy when in quarantine I bought:

  • VO5 Plump It Up Volumising  Spritz. (Super excited I have fine limp hair)
  • MUA Eyeshadow Palette Glitterball.
  • MUA BB All In One Beauty Balm in Light Rose
  • Maybelline Color Tattoo 24hr in 65. Pink Gold
  • Catrice Prime and Fine Highlighting Powder for Luminous Glow.
  • Catrice All Around Mascara Waterproof in Blackest Black.
So I think I have myself sorted for two weeks and I have held back on a few other posts for two reasons. One, because I haven't had time getting everything ready for quarantine and secondly there have been so many doctor appointments lately.

Update: I ended up experimenting with my nails so I ended up actually doing another post which you can find here.

#JuneBBC Day 19: My Fashion/Style Icon

Straight away I thought of Grace Kelly, timeless style and beauty.

I have always had a fascination for the life and style of Grace Kelly, I love reading everything I can about her.
I would love to be able to incorporate her style into my own.

I can only dream!

Clothes Haul for Little One

I had a day trip yesterday so I stopped into Marks and Spencer and Mothercare to get some well needed clothes for our 18 month old girl.

Mothercare:

Marks and Spencer:

Both had really great offers, and I just love the clothes they are great quality and a great fit that will last.

June Glossybox 2013

This is my fourth box and I have to say I was not impressed by this in the slightest, I am getting my next one free because I have enough glossydots, so that will be the decider when it arrives.
Unfortunately my little one got hold of the box before i came back with the camera and I was greeted by this so I don't have a pretty picture of how it was presented in the box. I wasn't bowled over when I opened it anyway it was dark and dreary looking except for one product which I will talk about further down.

First up is the John Frieda Frizz Ease Original Serum:
I used this last Friday before I went to a function, and I ended up having to wash my hair again because my hair looked as if a balloon had been rubbed against it, so really disappointing. Also this had leaked all over the box and all the products had to be cleaned. Yuck!

Second: was the Monu Hydrating Moisturiser SPF 15
I love anything with SPF in it because I like to protect my skin. Now I have only being using this a few days and I don't notice much of difference in my skin but will keep going for another few weeks to give it a chance.

Third: we have Helen E Lip Crayon:
I found this to bleed but I love the colour which was pomegranate and it lasted for a few hours until I had to reapply.

While I was taking pictures the crayon fell behind the dressing table and I can't reach!
Just in case you were wondering why there is no pic of the crayon.

Fourth: MeMeMe Eve Inspiring Mono Eyeshadow:

This was very powdery for me and when applied some of it was on my cheek. The colour I received was a muddy colour (Mocha) and I didn't like it at all.

Fifth: And finally the only product in the box that I have used every day since getting, and carry in my handbag is............. Figs & Rouge Cherry Bloom Lip Balm.

This stuff is the business and the packaging brightened up a very dull Glossybox. The colour is gorgeous and my lips are in brilliant condition, I will buy this over and over again when I can find a stockist in Wexford.

#JuneBBC Day 16: Skincare Routine

I learnt from a young age from my Grandma how important skincare is, so from the age of 14 I have always cleansed and moisturised. Over the last few years I have found my own little routine that I have stuck to and it works for me.

Sam McCauley

Morning time is about cleansing my skin with Benefit Foamingly Clean Facial Wash it's really gentle on my sensitive skin and then twice a week I use (at the moment) Sanctuary Warming Micro Abrasion Polish which I reviewed before. I then moisturise with Benefit Total Moisture Facial Cream which I love.

Sam McCauley

Then for night time I cleanse and moisturise all over again with the same products.

I know I know how boring but this is what works for my dry sensitive skin.

The Liebster Award

A big big thank you to Aoife from A Little Infinity who tagged me in The Liebster Award Tag, I got very excited and can't believe anyone would ask me to do it, so once again THANK YOU!

The basic premise is that a relatively unknown blogger is nominated by another new-ish blogger (defined as one with less than 200 followers), and they answer 11 questions before tagging 11 other bloggers to answer 11 different questions. Complicated or what!?! Also I found out that Liebster is German for "beloved"

1. Why did you start blogging?

I gave up work to be a stay at home mum but quickly noticed my brain was going to mush and needed something to keep my brain in gear. My husband for a full year kept going on about how I should blog about being a mammy to our little one and our experience plus I love make-up, fashion and going on my laptop. So I finally gave in and so happy that I have.

2. Where did your blog name come from?

It's a mix of my daughters name, my husbands birthplace and my favorite flower it just typed its way onto the computer, It was suggested at some stage to add "The Irish Mammy Blog"  part but still not 100% confident on that one.

3. What’s your favourite beauty brand?

I find this one tough as I like a little of everything, but the one brand I have a lot of is Benefit and I always seem to find something when i visit the counter.

4. What’s your current/summer scent?

Easy! Marc Jacobs Daisy, it's the perfume I wore for my wedding day! I was always very picky about my perfumes I can find them irritating and overpowering, then when I got pregnant it got a whole lot worse. So the only one I can wear is Marc Jacobs Daisy.

5. How do you treat yourself after a bad day?

I'm a mammy to a very active 18 month old so the only thing I want to do after a bad day is make my baby girl laugh and smile, but seriously after a bad day I love nothing more than a long soak in the bath.

6. Who’s your all time favourite blogger?

I can't answer! I have too many to list but there were 4 I followed before I started my own blog, these were the ones I got tips from or inspiration, they are Small Screen Savers for all my movie needs (have to say that he's my hubby sshhhh),  Make Up Monster, Behind Green Eyes and finally Girl Fridays Beauty Blog. I still read them nearly everyday to see what's new but I also get excited discovering new ones everyday and adding them to my list.

7. Have you ever/would you ever make the leap to YouTube/vlogging?

I can categorically say NO. I don't have the confidence for that at all I love taking pics or making family videos but not to be in them.

8. Favourite thing about the city/town you live in?

I love the heritage of my town and the community spirit, there is plenty to discover and always find something new and wonderful about it.

9. What’s your biggest pet peeve?

Bullying! It's the most horrendous thing anyone whether a child or an adult has to go through. It comes in many forms and can have serious repercussions for those that go through it.

10. Favourite and least favourite thing about blogging?

Favourite thing is feeling like I am part of a community and love chatting to new people and reading their blogs I find the whole thing very exciting and I feel involved.
The least favourite thing is trying to come up with topics that everyone would be interested in and not boring everyone to death ha ha

11. Favourite dessert?

Oh dear I don't have a favourite, because I love them all. Just put it in front of me and it will be gone in 2 seconds flat! Except anything with mousse.

I hope this helped you all get to know me better and I also hope I didn't bore you all. So on with the show where I tag 11 new people.

1. Elizabeth of Beauty Fang

2. Becky of Lipgloss and Lashes

3. Aoife of aoifeinwonderland

4. BloggingBoutBabies of Blogging Bout Babies

5. Abbi of Simply Abbi

6. Tea Party Beauty of Tea Party Beauty

7. Glamour & Go of Glamour & Go

8. Sharon of Behind Green Eyes

9. Donna of Lip Gloss and Slippers

10.Tanyia of Tanyia Talks

11. Claire of DesperateBlogwife
And the questions if you except are as follows:

1. What was your reason for starting a blog?

2. Do your family and friends know about your blog?

3. What is your favourite film and why?

4. Apart from your own, which blogs do you visit everyday?

5. What is the toughest part of blogging for you?

6. Do you prefer the cinema or watching movies at home?

7. What is your favourite beauty brand?

8. How did you feel getting tagged in the Liebster Award?

9. How many hours a week do you spend on your blog?

10. What is your favourite aspect of blogging?

11. Have you any phobias?

#JuneBBC Day 15: Favourite Online Shop

When I saw that this was the Topic for day 15 the first online shop that came to mind was ASOS, I absolutely love shopping on ASOS.

I discovered ASOS about 5 years ago and have bought many things from them over the years, from make-up, clothes, shoes and accessories. I especially loved shopping from their maternity line, as where I live there wasn't much of a selection and when there was it was obscenely expensive to buy, so ASOS were my life savers then. I also got my wedding bag from them!

I'm extra excited at the moment because you can now buy from the Primark range so this will be interesting to see what's on offer.

The extra bonus' for me is that you can shop within the Euro prices and has free worldwide shipping! What is not to love about that.

ASOS are the UK's largest independent online fashion and beauty retailer and have over 60,000 brands and their own label products.

#JuneBBC Day 14: Favourite Mascara

My holy grail of mascara would have to be Benefit's They're Real! Mascara. I have read mixed reviews on this but for me this is my must have.

I have long eyelashes but can't be seen as the tips are really blonde and with this jet black mascara they look so much longer, separated, and curled! The other bonus is it lasts all day and it's not clumpy that's an extra tick!

Before & After top lash only.
Sorry about the awful  pic, need to invest in a new camera!

How To Apply:

You hold the wand horizontally and wiggle your brush from side to side this gives you volume, length and lift. Then you turn it vertically and stroke upwards to curl and separate.

The Brush:

I like the slim brush and it helps get the hard to reach corners with it's custom domed tip. It's a plastic brush and not sure if that's to everyone's taste.

Does It Work:

Without a doubt it works for me and I love the effect.

Overall Verdict:

I will buy this again and I have to say it is on the pricey side, but I just have to have it again. I would love to see this formula made as waterproof even though I haven't had a problem as yet but haven't been in a situation to really test that part out, or even in other colours.

MooGoo Who? Review

MooGoo is an Australian Company that make a natural range of skincare products for people who suffer from skin and scalp problems.

It was my mum who discovered this on a recent trip away, and thinking of both me and the little one with our skin problems bought this for us. I do have a habit of using my little ones products I suppose that comes hand in hand with being a mammy and always in a rush, these amazingly are for adults and kids woohoo!

MooGoo products originate from a cream used in dairy farms to repair the skin on cows udders, not sure how that made me feel when I read it for a second then I just burst out laughing with all the quirkiness of this company.

The Products:

"The no gimmick ingredient stampede", Edible oils, paraffin oil free, pH balanced, and recyclable packaging.

MooGoo Full Cream Moisturiser:

This can be used on face and body and can be used on all the family, definitely a bonus in my eyes. The first thing you notice about these products is the packaging they are simple yet so quirky. They come in what looks like milk cartons but the actual product is in a plastic pump bottle, which makes application easy and not messy.

I have been using this for nearly a month with our little lady and we have both noticed a difference in the appearance of our eczema and now have subtle and smooth skin. I like when you put this on that it absorbs quickly and feels like it is cooling the skin. I love using it on my face and can now wear make-up without it caking onto me because of the dry skin.

Our little one is still getting there with her skin but this has made such an improvement over anything else I have used so I think after another few weeks she will have smooth skin once again. Her skin was so severe that I thought nothing non medicated would work but I am being proven wrong with MooGoo and all it's natural ingredients.

Overall Verdict:

No Matter what your skin type is I would recommend this. The packaging is a delight to behold and is all recyclable. The cost is reasonable to me as I have spent so much money on creams to work and have wasted a lot doing so. I also like going onto the website which is enriched with information about your skin problems and also the products and what is in them. I can't wait to try more of their products and expand on what we have.

MooGoo Nappy Balm:

Our little lady started off with the MooGoo Nappy Balm for her sore irritated bottom and within minutes there was a difference, within a day not a mark and her bottom was to be seen it was as soft as the day she was born.

Nappy rash can be "caused by either a reaction to urea, or by yeast. The introduction of a barrier cream combined with an anti yeast ingredient is the best way to prevent this. In addition, it would help if the ingredients not only agreed with our skin but our insides too". So this is why they came up with the MooGoo Nappy Balm.

Does It Work:

For my little one it did and we are going to buy this again and again and again.

Why No 24hr Pharmacies In Ireland?

This week I have discovered the importance of making sure the medicine cabinet is stocked. It all kicked off here Thursday night when our little one got a really high temperature and looked so unwell that we rang Care Doc (for those of you who may not be from here, Care Doc is an out of hours emergency family doctor).

When you ring Care Doc you talk to the receptionist who takes down the details and passes it on to a nurse. The nurse then rings you back to access the patient and if the patient would need to come in and see the doctor.

So at 8.45pm we got in the car and down to the surgery and met the doctor who diagnosed our little one with a virus. We were told to give Calpol and Nurofen rotating which one every four hours. Great so off we went home to discover no Nurofen, okay we will use the Calpol till we get to the pharmacy in the morning, unfortunetly our little one got sicker as the night wore on and had to ring Care Doc again.

Once again the nurse rang and explained about our little one getting worse. I was scolded for not having it! So after a lecture on our medicine cabinet, I was told to go wake the neighbours so I ended up flagging down a Taxi and it turned out it was one of our neighbours who helped us out at 1.30am, we were in luck they had Nurofen.

We were up all night with our little one making sure she didn't have a convulsion or anything untoward happen. All well the next day even though out of sorts till Saturday. Saturday evening she was looking better and more herself.

Then Sunday happened. I noticed a rash on her legs after her afternoon nap so I said screw care doc we are going to A&E NOW. It turned out she was still viral but had an allergic reaction to jam. I was relieved in so many ways and glad it wasn't more serious than it was. So we were given a perscription so off we went.

To my dismay I could not find a pharmacy open in Wexford after 6pm, why? do people not get sick and need medicine after 6pm? I would say I have traveled a fair bit and in all the other countries I have been to I have always come across 24hr pharmacies. Why is it so backwards here? Thankfully when I went back to the hospital and told them, they gave me enough till next morning when I could get one open.

I can't understand why the pharmacies can't rotate the nights between them or even have something worked out that Care Doc/Hospital could ring them and arrange for someone to go to the pharmacy. I do remember back in the late 80's early 90's there were late night all night opening of pharmacies, what changed? Can it be changed back?

If anyone can enlighten me I would be grateful, please leave a comment here on the blog or on twitter.

#JuneBBC Day 9: Most Recent Beauty Buy

After a disastrous start with Sanctuary's Skincare range I decided to give it another go with a different product, so a few days ago I got their Warming Microbrasion Polish....

 What It Does:

It gives an intense thermal polish to refine and soothe the skin. This combines intense warming to help open pores and stimulate circulation while the fine polish of marine earth with natural koalin help detoxify.

This in turn leave skin feeling smooth, refined and give a youthful look.

Does it Work:

Yes & No:  I did notice a difference in my complexion and loved how smooth it looked also my pores were reduced so that was a big check of the list.

Unfortunately I was disappointed in the thermal side of things there was only a little tingle of heat for half a sec then gone so it just felt like any other exfoliate that I have tried so it didn't feel like an intense warming sensation for a deep clean. I have used products like this before that have that "thermal sensation" just like at the spa but this didn't do it for me.

Overall Verdict:

This has made a difference to the appearance of my skin that it has been noticeable with one use, I will consider buying this again once this tube runs out. The packaging is simple and isn't fancy expect for some silver writing on the tube, and the texture of the product is like a paste with sugar in it.

#JuneBBC Day 8: Beauty Wishlist

I would need to win the lotto to buy all that is on my beauty wishlist but have decided to narrow it down to my top 5 on the list :-)

1. Benefit Feelin' Dandy Lip & Cheek Kit €35.00:

asos.com

I have been lusting after this after testing it out at the Benefit Counter at Sam McCauley's Wexford. Hoping next month it will be on the dressing table :-) It has Deluxe posietint sample, Deluxe high beam sample, dandelion, ultra plush dandelion lip gloss.

2. Clarisonic Mia €159.06:

asos.com

I've heard mixed reviews on this but would love to try it out but could never justify spending that amount of money on it. It is meant to cleanse the skin and reduce pores, helps mimimise wrinkles.

3. Urban Decay Naked 2 Eyeshadow Palette €42.00:

Urban Decay.com

This eyeshadow palette is filled with 12 pigment-rich, taupe and greige neutral eyeshadows, including FIVE EXCLUSIVE NEW shades. I can't wait to make a trip to Dublin to get this :-) I have read so many reviews on this and people just seem to love it.

4. Shiseido Facial Cotton (60 Pack) €5.00

Sam McCauleys.com

5. Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Skin Protectant Cream €32.00

Sam McCauley's.com
I got a sample of this in a glossybox and used it to an inch of it's life, I even cut it open just to get a bit at the end. I would love to buy the full size product of this because it was brilliant for chapped lips, and I had a breakout of spots due to a reaction to a foundation I used and this really helped. It does remind me of vaseline but this feels like it treating me where vaseline feels like it prevents. I also used this to tame my eyebrows ;-)

Looking forward to reading everyone's wishlists and maybe if you tried anything on my wishlist you will let me know what you thought of them. xx

#JuneBBC Day 7: Favourite Lip Product

I have missed out on the first few #JuneBBC which has been brought to you by girlfridays beauty blog so check her out and read some of her amazing posts, also follow the hashtag #JuneBBC on twitter.

Now for today it's all about Lip products, so for me this is going to very short and sweet!

The Look I Like:

I am very much for the natural look when it comes to my lips, for one simple reason.... I have never ever found a lipstick or gloss to suit me.

Lip Product:

So to keep my lips in tip top condition I use two products, one which is always in my handbag is Vaseline (which i discover a new use for it every week) it gives a nice sheen to my lips and keeps them subtle.

Second is Lush's Mint Julips Lip Scrub, which clears away the dead skin and it leave them moisturised and smooth and the smell and taste of Mint Julips is divine it's like mint choc chip ice-cream on a summers day. Yum! I also love the little jar it comes in so cute and seems to last a long time which is great for me as we don't have a Lush shop near us.

One day I hope I will find a lipstick or gloss to suit me but until that day I won't give up on my Vaseline and Lush's Mint Julips.

Afraid of the Dreaded Bath, Update:

I recently told you all about my little one and her fear of the Dreaded Bath. I am delighted to announce I have an update.

Every two to three nights I would turn on the dreaded immersion (and always forget to turn it off) and off I go and run a little bath for my little one, and like clockwork my little one knew exactly what I was up to and would start hiding and running through the house away from the bathroom. If we tried to bring her close she would cry so hard she would nearly make herself sick and would be shaking with fear. As I said before we had no idea how this had begun, we had no accidents no traumatic hot baths to frighten her nothing of note that would give her this uncontrollable fear.

I didn't want to push it as I know what it's like to have a fear or phobia and didn't want to completely put her off for the rest of her life.

How It Unfolded:

So last night I went through the same motions except I wasn't holding out much hope, so I was completely at ease and laid back as I was starting to get so used this routine of cat and mouse. I started off by stripping her down twenty minutes before hand a letting her just be "natural" then I ran the bath behind closed doors so she could neither hear or see it.  Next I told her she was going to give me a wash and we went and picked out her favourite toy to bring with her (stacking cups). I sat on the edge of the bath with her and we sang a song and laughed (this is the closest we had got). Next thing I know she throws in her toy and tries to get in with it.. Okay no problem in you get. Now for the first 10 minutes she stood in it I had no problem with that, it was a start and a fantastic one at that. I didn't try and force her to sit down or anything I just went along with herself. Then she started to head for her old bath toys like the duck and some balls which I had taken from her ball pit, so as she was distracted I started to wash her down and still she was happy. Then next she was fully in the bath sitting down and splashing, singing and full of laughter.

My husband and I started to wonder if we should go as far as washing her hair or would we run the risk of frightening her with water going down her face. Well we had to, her hair was in desperate need of a proper wash. I used her sprinkle can for the plants to do it and filled it with the water from the sink and it made for great fun as she wanted to use it then to wash Mammy's arm.

I am so proud of my little girl conquering her fears and can never explain the joy I felt last night.

What Now:

Well it was good sign by the end that we couldn't get her out so we had to make her bed-time bottle and show it to her so we could get her out without a fuss, so we are hoping that this will continue and the fear is left in the past. Maybe it was just a phase, who knows!?!

Lidl Nappies Vs Big Brands

Where to start with the nappies....... Well I suppose it all began when we had our first baby in 2011, obviously nappies were on top of the list to buy so off I went down to our local Tesco. I was shocked by all the different brands and didn't know what to look at, it was a whole aisle dedicated to them. So I stuck with what I know a *big brand! I went with the *big brand as obviously all their advertising on telly had sunk in and all the mammies I knew were using them so that's how I chose.

As the months started to go by and the nappies were coming fast and furious I noticed they were taking a big chunk out of our weekly budget, so after 10 months of hundreds of nappies (seemed like millions at the beginning) I had enough.

I do my weekly shop in Lidl and noticed the amount of mammies going for Lidl's own brand Toujours Nappies, so I sparked up conversation with one of them. How long have you been using them? oh for months now. Do they leak? No never. Are they a good fit? Yes my wee lad is comfy in them. Right that's it i'm buying them.

So I came home all delighted with my new purchase of nappies (saved me a trip to another supermarket for the big brand) and decided I would give it the ultimate test of putting them on our little one for the night.

Next morning: The nappy had done it's job! No leaks, no red bottom, and the nappy had soaked up everything.

What was I thinking spending so much money on other brands when these were right in front of me the whole time? So to other Mums and Dad's out there go buy these and try them out see what you think, save yourself some money and start putting it in a jar.

The nappies we get are Toujours size 5 which cost €6.55 and has 44 in the pack also every now and again they have a deal 2 for €10 (they have one coming up Mon 3rd of June).

After a lot of misses and trying other brands this was the one for our little one.

* I didn't want to mention the other brands as I thought that would be unfair as what works for us does not always work  for everyone else. We also did not have any problems with our original big brand it was just the expense.
